Hello and thank you for stopping by!

My name is Michele Hogan, the owner and creator of Inkling Candles.

The concept for my candle collection came during the fall of 2021, after my long-awaited return to faith.  My relationship with God had been severed for the previous thirty years, and I began to spend each day in the bible, learning more about the Lord, and how to have a relationship with his son, Jesus.

I burned a Frankincense candle during my devotion time, and quickly found the aroma becoming part of the experience.  Feeling inspired, I contemplated the idea of having a candle line centered around faith.  I believed it could provide an uplifting experience, and would offer a unique spin on something that people already love…candles!

That same week I was led to pick up a copy of ‘Surprised by Joy,’ written by C. S. Lewis.  It was a peculiar thing for me to do because I’ve never had any interest in him or his works, and celebrity gossip had been the extent of my reading as an adult.

I started to hear, “Jack,” what his dear friends called him, describe his childhood, and after only six pages his words had warmed my heart.  I placed the book down and went online to research who he was, and quickly fell in love with what I was learning.  I could feel that he was a vulnerable and caring soul through his words, and the words others used when describing him.  My research led me to discover his fellow companions, and cultivated family, The “Inkling’s.”

I found that each member of the group contributed to society not only by their works, but also through each of their distinct personalities.  I knew enough about C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien to know that they were widely successful, extremely influential, well respected, and blessed by the Holy Spirit with a creative genius rarely seen.

I learned that members, Charles Williams, and Owen Barfield, were key players in this group, and that collectively, all four men were more impactful then they could have been individually.  I knew this wasn’t a coincidence, because no matter how awful or confusing circumstances may seem at times, everything is done according to God’s plan.  While giving the homily (sermon) at our church one day the father said, “There are no coincidences, only providence.”

In this moment I was led to keep the memory of the Inkling’s alive, knowing it had been a century since they first met.  Even though I knew nothing about them, I followed my intuition, which led me to create this custom candle line that I have to offer you today.  Currently you will find eleven scents in my collection.  I pour each one myself with love, care, and appreciation.

Thank you so much for your support!

I happen to believe that you can’t study men, you can only get to know them, which is quite a different thing.
